GOES-R

"GOES" stands for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite. Two GOES are always high above Earth keeping their eyes on hurricanes and all weather happening in North America and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The satellites also warn us of storms on the Sun that can affect our planet. GOES-R is the new, very advanced type of GOES that will be launched in 2015.
